Heritage Exhibit - Oregon Asian Celebration

The Heritage Exhibit spans almost 200 years of Oregon’s Asian history. See exhibits about Fort Umpqua in 1831 and the many Hawaiians and Tahitians who worked there. These men helped the Hudson Bay Company establish relationships with Native American tribes. We will also have exhibits on Japanese and Sikh immigrants who lived and worked near Eugene. There will also be a display about the Ping Yang School, near Marcola and the Japanese Colony that survived only a few years.

The Heritage Exhibit seeks to honor the contributions and courage of those who have gone before us. Steve Williamson coordinates the Heritage Exhibit. You can read some of these stories at his website www.asianoregon.org

Celebrating 41 Years with Event Posters
This year’s Heritage Exhibit features 41 consecutive years of posters created to promote the Oregon Asian Celebration. Over the festival’s history, these beautiful themed posters were designed by local artists who were involved with the festival in various ways. Among them were long-time volunteer Kenji Kobayashi, Chinese brush painting instructor and art show participant Kathy Hoy, anime artist Marianne Walker, illustrators Cindy Lee and Barbara Townsend, and taiko drummer Melody Howe.

While these artists provided the stunning themed artwork, we also extend our appreciation to the talented production designers who brought these posters to life over the years. We thank Steven Mueller, who served as our production designer for decades, and Jesse Springer, who recently joined our team, for transforming artists’ designs into the final posters you will see at the exhibit.
